Print Artist, Solid Artist Kenji Kitagawa

Born in Fukui Prefecture(Central Japan) in 1952. Earned Master degree of Art Science from Tama Art University. Studied copperplate engraving from Tetsuro Komai, and started his career recommended by Shiko Munakata and Masuo Ikeda. Awarded as Bridgestone Museum of Art Prize in Contemporary Art of Japan Exhibition in '75. Tokyo International Print Biennial Exhibition in '76(Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art), Ljubljana International Print Biennial in '81. Began creating solid works using "box" from '89, studied in European countries as a governmental Cultural Exchange member in '90. He stands foremost among today's copperplate engraving and solid objet fields. He expands his ways of expression into photograph, poem, and writing as well as print, oil painting, and solid objet. His works, symphonized his acute poetic sensitivity and superb ability in design, uniquely stand in Japanese art world.
